A. Joseph DeNucci, peacefully passed away Friday, Sept. 8, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. He was 78.
Joe was born August 30, 1939. Joe is survived by his loving wife Barbara and their five children daughter Deborah Asaley, husband Edward, daughter Diane Busa, husband Richard, son Alexander DeNucci, wife MaryBeth, son Joseph DeNucci and daughter Donna Busa, husband Eric. Joe had 14 loving grandchildren, Eddie, Brianna, Michael, Lisa, Andrew, Joseph, Angela, Sophia, Nicholas, Ava, Olivia, Anthony, Vincent and Domenic. Remembered by his devoted sister Patricia Doherty and her husband Joe, his brother Anthony DeNucci, brother in law Robert Cedrone. Sister in law Margaret Buckley. Brother in law Ronald Cedrone wife Joyce. Daughter in law Melissa DeNucci and all of his wonderful nephews, nieces and cousins. Joe was the beloved son of the late Alexander and Katherine (Maiocca) DeNucci.
Joe grew up in Newton (Nonantum) Mass. He graduated Newton High School when as a junior he stated his professional boxing career. Joe was a top ranked contender and has the distinction of having the most boxing matches in the history of the Boston Garden. He was inducted to the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame in Chicago. After his boxing career ended, he was elected in 1977 to the Massachussttes House of Representatives where he served as Chairman of Human Services and Elderly Affairs. Joe was then elected State Auditor in 1986 and was the longest-serving Auditor in the Commonwealth’s history where he served 24 years before retiring in 2011.
Visiting hours Tuesday, Sept. 12 from 2-8PM in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington St, Newton. Funeral Mass Wed., Sept. 13 at 9:30AM, also in Our Lady’s Church. Burial to follow in Newton Cemetery.
